I have been trying to write a query for a view but I can't seem to get it... I have two tables that I need to join... but what I need is that for every ID in table 1 I get all records on table 2. For Example:
Table 1 Table 2
Jhon Car
Bill House
Jet
I would like to get:
Table 3
Jhon Car
Jhon House
Jhon Jet
Bill Car
Bill House
Bill Jet
P.S. Data on both tables can vary.
P.S.S. Table 1 is actually a Left Outer Join between two other tables where the first table contains the indexes and the second contains the field used to create relation to Table 2.
You need a CROSS JOIN for this (AKA Cartesian Product).
SELECT t1.col, t2.col
FROM Table1 t1 cross join Table2 t2
Try this
select * from table1, table2
or use a CROSS JOIN if database supports it
SELECT *
FROM table1
CROSS JOIN
table2
select columns you want to get
from Table1 Cross Join Table2

I am getting my face kicked in....
I have a total of 4 tables
1. Business (BusinessID, CustomerID, BusName, Territory)
2. Customer (CustomerID, Name)
3. Sales (BusinessID, CustomerID, Territory, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun)
4. Performance (this is the table I want the info in)
I've already created the table to have the following columns, BusinessID, CustomerID, BusName, Name, Territory, Jan,Feb,Mar,Apr,May,Jun
Every time I try to insert its not properly joining and I am getting a bunch of errors "multi-part identifier could not be bound"
insert into Performance (BusinessID, CustomerID, BusName, Name, Territory, January2018, February2018, March2018, April2018, May2018, June2018)
select Business.BusinessID, Customer.CustomerID, Business.BusName, Customer.Name, Sales.Territory, Sales.January2018, Sales.February2018, Sales.March2018, Sales.April2018, Sales.May2018, Sales.June2018
from Business A
inner join Customer B ON a.CustomerID = b.CustomerID
inner join Sales C ON b.CustomerID = c.CustomerID;
Due to this error I had to do 3 seperate insert into and that caused a bunch of nulls....
face palm is happening and could use some advice.

You have used table ALIASES, so you have to use those aliases in you SELECT
A for Business, B for Customer and C for Sales.
Read about ALIASES here.
select A.BusinessID, B.CustomerID, A.BusName, B.Name, C.Territory, C.January2018, C.February2018, C.March2018, C.April2018, C.May2018, C.June2018
from Business A
inner join Customer B ON a.CustomerID = b.CustomerID
inner join Sales C ON b.CustomerID = c.CustomerID;
When you create a table alias in your FROM and JOIN clauses, you need to refer to the aliases in your SELECT statement and not the actual table names.
Alternatively, leave your SELECT statement as it is, and adjust your table names to remove the alias. You'll then need the join conditions to refer to your actual table names, rather than the alias. So for example;
select Business.BusinessID, Customer.CustomerID, Business.BusName, Customer.Name, Sales.Territory, Sales.January2018, Sales.February2018, Sales.March2018, Sales.April2018, Sales.May2018, Sales.June2018
from Business
inner join Customer ON Business.CustomerID = Customer.CustomerID
inner join Sales ON Customer.CustomerID = Sales.CustomerID;
Even just try running the SELECT statement above first to make sure you get the query correct before trying it in your insert.
OBSERVATION table-
O_ID, NAME ,OL_ID ,BP_ID ,OC_ID and OL_ID ,BP_ID ,OC_ID these three column contain FK.
OBSERVATION_CATEGORY table- OC_ID NAME
BUSINESS_PROCESS table- BP_ID NAME
OPERATING_LOCATION_1 table- ID NAME
I have 4 other tables in which ID column is there which has to inserted in observation table. In short I have to fetch data from 4 tables into one table.
FIRST CREATE TABLE AND CREATE SQL QUERY LIKE below:-
INSERT INTO table5
SELECT O_ID,OC_ID, oc.NAME,BP_ID bp.NAME,ol.ID,ol.NAME
FROM table1 ob INNER JOIN table2 oc ON ob.O_ID=oc.OC_ID
INNER JOIN table3 bp ON ob.O_ID=bp.BP_ID
INNER JOIN table4 ol ON ob.O_ID=ol.ID;
How ever you have NOT mention your DATABASE nor your exact problem.
I have a couple of tables that have data in them that I am looking to get information from. Here is the rundown....In table 1 I have bunch of columns that I am pulling data from, one of the columns is a user ID (which is a number)that was the last userID to modify a record. In table 2 I want to pull in the name of that user based on the ID that is pulled from the other table (this table has both the userID and the username).
so my final query would have the columns in table 1 as well as the username from table 2 to show that was the user to last edit the record. I assume this has to be done in a nested select statement but for the life of me I cannot come up with the correct syntax.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks
Jeff
Yes, you need a very basic join that link both tables together.
Select t1.UserID,
t2.UserName
FROM table1 t1 INNER JOIN
table2 t2 ON t1.userid=t2.userid
select t1.*, t2.{username} from table1 as t1
join table2 as t2 on t1.{userId}=t2.{userid};
change {username} with the actual column name of user
similarly {userId} with appropriate column name in tables.
Hope it helps you.
this is standard inner join query, to learn more consider reading: http://www.w3schools.com/sql/
I need to display 3 columns from table A and one column from table B. I used the following join query to combine them but not getting the value in the expected columns.
example1 -this is working.(If I display one column from table A and one column from table B it works)
SELECT
tableA.col1(fkid),
tableB.col1
FROM tableA
INNER JOIN tableB
ON tableA.fkid = tableB.pkid;
I need to display 3 columns from table A and one column from table B the below query is not working.
SELECT
tableA.col1,
tableA.col2,
tableA.col3,
tableB.col1
FROM tableA
FULL JOIN tableB
ON tableA.fkid = tableB.pkid;
Original query:
select device.name,device.description, device.fkphonetemplate,phonetemplate.name from device inner join phonetemplate ON device.fkphonetemplate=phonetemplate.pkid;
Result:
description fkphonetemplate name
Nikhil (nkalantr) 10ce46f6-615d-4605-9f42-454225df5647 ARRAY(0xc7153b0)
Expected result should be:
description fkphonetemplate name
Nikhil (nkalantr) 10ce46f6-615d-4605-9f42-454225df5647 Standard 7960 SCCP
I don't get name from device table in the result and the name from phonetemplate table shows something as Array0X... but I need to get the name of phonetemplate like Standard 7960 as shown in expected result.
Can you refine my query or suggest what's wrong with the 2nd query?
Any reason for you to using full join instead of inner join ?
If no,try using inner join.
SELECT
a.col1,
a.col2,
a.col3,
b.col1
FROM tableA a
INNER JOIN tableB b
ON a.fkid = b.pkid;
Can you provide your database sample data , so we can clearly know what your need.
I am running a query that returns records from the LEFT of the EXCEPT that are not on the right query;
USE AdventureWorks;
GO
SELECT ProductID
FROM Production.Product
EXCEPT
SELECT ProductID
FROM Production.WorkOrder;
Lets say there are 6 records returned (there are 6 records in Production.Product table, that are not in Production.WorkOrder)
How would I write the query to update the 6 records into Production.WorkOrder table?
insert into workorder (productid)
select productid from product where productid not in (select productid from workorder)
This will insert into workorder all the productid's in the product table that aren't already in workorder.
I'd use a left join, like this:
USE AdventureWorks;
GO
SELECT p.ProductID
FROM Production.Product p
LEFT
JOIN Production.WorkOrder wo
ON p.ProductID = wo.ProductID
WHERE wo.ProductID IS NULL;
This will return all the ProductID values from Product that do not appear in WorkOrder. The problem with the other answer (WHERE NOT IN) is that the sub-query will execute once/row, and if the tables are large, this will be really slow. A LEFT JOIN will only execute once, and then SQL will match the rows up - on a small table, there won't be much difference in practice, but on a larger table or in a production database, the difference will be immense.
Just turn your query into an INSERT?
INSERT INTO Production.WorkOrder(ProductID, ...)
SELECT ProductID, ...
FROM Production.Product
EXCEPT
SELECT ProductID
FROM Production.WorkOrder;
