Can SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition be installed on Windows 7 Professional Edition? - sql-server

I want to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition to Windows 7 Professional Edition. I tried many times, but it also failed.
Is it possible to do that? Has anyone successfully installed SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7? What are the steps to guarantee a successful install?

SQL Server Enterprise Edition does not support Windows client operating systems. You can only install it on Windows Server.
Try installing Developer Edition. It provides similar features with licensing restrictions (you can't install it on production servers).

I have installed on Windows 7 Ultimate right now. It may not be officially supported unless you're using Windows Server, but it does work.

Unable to install SQL Server 2016 on Windows 7 SP1 x64

I need to install SQL Server 2016 (including Reporting Services, SQL Agent etc) on Windows 7. I know that it's not supported platform so I'm looking for a solution how to make that.
I found out the following two conversations on below topic:
Why can I not install sql server express 2016 on windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1?
https://redmondmag.com/articles/2016/06/01/sql-server-2016-hits-general-availability.aspx?m=1
I have followed the steps from 2nd one:
- Install on W10 VM,
- Copy all Program Files files from W10 to W7
- Copy REG KEY from W10 to W7 (don't know exactly which one)
- Install SSDT tools
- Install SSMS
All in all I have the following view:
Unfortunately when I'm trying to run SQL 2016 services it's not starting up.
Any step by step instruction would be very helpful.
You've answered your own question. SQL 2016 is not supported on Windows 7 or earlier. You have to upgrade to Windows 8.
You cannot install SQL Server 2016 on Windows 7 but you can install SQL Management Studio on Windows 7 to connect to a remote server instance.
SSMS is now supported independent of the SQL installation. As of v16, it is maintained independently and claims backwards compatibility to SQL2008. The latest version is available at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms?view=sql-server-2017
As of this post, SSMS v17.9.1 worked on my installation of Windows 7 Pro x64 and allowed me to connect to a remote SQL2017 instance.
SSMS version 17.x or later does not support connecting to the legacy SQL Server Integration Services service. To connect to an earlier version of the legacy Integration Services, use the version of SSMS aligned with the version of SQL Server.

sql server doesn't work on windows 8 64bit

I'm facing kinda weird problems. I installed windows 8 pro 64 bit then installed Visual Studio 2010, both working well. But the problem is in SQL server 2008 and SQL server 2012 installation. Both gives different kind of errors; sometime it says that version not matching. Then finally, I installed 2012. Had no login or windows authentication. I don't know why it never happened to me. Please suggest a correct link for installing SQL server on windows 8 64bit so I can use MANAGEMENT studio etc..
I had a similar problem when installing SQL Server Express on Windows 8.1 pro. Just right click the installation executable (even if it's on a DVD, find the setup.exe or similar), go to Properties, Compatibility tab and use the compatibility for an older version of windows, like Windows 7.
Another option is to download the latest package from Microsoft. I was able to install the SQL Server 2008 SP3 without compatibility settings. You could try SQL Server SP1 as well (I haven't tested this without compatibility settings).
here you go
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562
in there there's information about installing the old sql server apps on newer windows version. The minimum version for windows 8 is SQL Server 2008 SP3.

Can i install microsoft sql server 2012 system CLR types on windows XP SP3?

I want to install SharedManagementObjects for SQL server 2012 express on a windows xp sp3 machine that has SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition but does not have any edition of SQL Server 2012.
But one of the prerequisites for installing "SharedManagementObjects for SQL server 2012" is that microsoft sql server 2012 system CLR types must be installed.
I see i can download the SQLSysClrTypes.msi i need from Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Feature Pack
but am not certain it will successfully install on a windows XP SP3 machine that has .NET 4.0 and Windows installer 4.5 but no SQL Server 2012.
EDIT:
Same problem as this http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/nl/sqlsmoanddmo/thread/6bcde08f-e848-40a0-bc1f-e2f803a125da
I want to do this because i have an application whose backend database can either be SQL Server 2008 R2(for clients running windows XP SP3) or SQL Sever 2012(for clients on Windows Vista and above).
This application uses SMO for doing programmatic backup and restore operations.
Now in my application when i reference SMO for SQL Server 2008 R2, backup and restore fails on systems that have SQL server 2012.
If in my application i reference SMO for SQL Server 2012, backup and restore fails on systems that have SQL server 2008 R2 (i.e XP3 clients).
What is the common best way of handling such a requirement? Or what alternatives do i have?
All i need is for the WinForms application to support both SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 and their corresponding versions of SMO.
The System Requirements section on that download page is pretty clear:
System requirements
Supported operating systems: Windows 7, Windows
Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista
Service Pack 2
There's no mention of Windows XP SP3 - so no, you cannot install this SMO library on Windows XP SP3. Time to upgrade.
I´ve an app that uses ReportViewer 2012. It needs SQLSysClrTypes 2012. I´ve tried to install it on XP but it says it needs .Net Framework 2, 3.5 or 4. Framework .Net 4 was installed but it doesn´t detect it, so I´ve installed .Net v2 and could successfully installed the SQLSysClrTypes.
Don´t know if this applies for SMO, but the CLR Types 2012 could be installed in XP.

I cannot install SQL Server 2008 R2 express X64 management tools

I am trying to install the SQL Server 2008 R2 express X64 but it doesnot install the MANAGEMENT TOOLS because it finds the VS 2008 and it wants the SP1. I have not install any VS edition. How can I overcome this problem? I have windows 7 professional 64.
Thanks
Perhaps is it because Express comes in different editions. Not all them include the management tools.
Check the download page and choose the right version. The one you need is
SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools
If you are sure you have the right download, perhaps you have installed earlier management tools and sql server considers that a kind of light VS? If you go to your installed programmes, do you see there any kind of SQL Server management tools (earlier version?) or VS?

Can't install Server tools with SSIS on top of Express Edition

I have a SQL Server Express edition with management studio and i'm trying to use the enterprise disks ("SQL Server 2005" Enterprise Edition 32-bit Server Applications") and I can't get it to give me the option of installing the server components or a server instance. What am I missing?
You can't install the server tools for Enterprise edition because you need to actually install the server version. You can't add enterprise tools to the Express edition. You need a brand new installation of the full blown Enterprise edition.
If you want the server tools, you need to install the right version, meaning in your case, the Enterprise edition. I don't know if you can do it side-by-side as a new instance (and I'm not even sure if you can install it on a non-server version of Windows.)
Edit
I found the answer to the question of whether you can install it in a non-server version of Windows here.
End Edit
However, if you mean the CLIENT side tools, so that you can create SSIS packages for a SQL Server on another machine (meaning a true server), without having to have Enterprise edition on your development pc, see this article.
