Why isn't Xcode running on my Macbook Pro? - c

I just downloaded Xcode 6.4 onto my macbook pro with OS X 10.9.5, Thing is it keeps sayings Xcode only works on 10.10.4 or higher? Any suggestions? Would like to learn C.
Any ideas?

According to Wikipedia the latest version of Xcode that will with with OS X 10.9.5 is Xcode 6.2. You can't get this version from the App Store AFAIK, but Apple do keep older versions available for download in Developer Centre. Just go there, sign in if needed, search for Xcode 6.2, and you should be able to download the DMG directly and install. Or alternatively, here is a direct link to Xcode 6.2. Sign in may be required.
Alternatively, you could upgrade your OS to the latest if your hardware supports it.

How to compile and run C on a Surface Pro X?

I'd like to program some Ansi-C on a Surface Pro X. On my Computer I just set up VS Code as an editor and installed Msys2 which comes with the GCC. But the same won't work on the Surface Pro X, cause if the processor architecture as I understand (correct me if I'm wrong).
So my question is: How can I compile and run C on a Surface Pro X and also check for Ansi C conformity. It also would be nice to be able to work in VS Code.
Also is this a general problem of the Surface Pro X? Would those issues also appear when trying to program java or python?
I don't have a Surface Pro X or any other ARM Windows device, however it should be possible to use VS Code since there has been a Windows on ARM version since May 2020 (download on the usual Visual Studio Code download page).
I am not sure on what development environments are available for Windows on ARM, but you could always install WSL (the Windows subsystem for Linux) where you can then install pretty much anything you want. You can then link your VS Code to your WSL and work there.
To install development tools for any language you would then follow instructions on how to install that environment for Linux (eg. using apt-get for Debian and it's derivatives like Ubuntu).
To install basic development tools for Java and C/C++ in WSL type sudo apt install default-jdk default-jre gcc g++, python is generally already installed in a linux environment.

In C, how do I install GL/glx.h , GL/gl.h and GL/glu.h on Mac OS

I have some code which includes the headers GL/glx.h , GL/gl.h and GL/glu.h . I do not even know what these are, and Google is not a lot of help because there is so much noise in the search results. So (optionally) what are they, but more importantly, how do I install them on a Mac (Mac OS 10.15.4). I have installed other stuff using homebrew so that would be my preference.
EDIT: By renaming the headers to OpenGL/glx.h etc, I can now find gl.h abd glu.h but not glx.h.
This answer openGL glx.h missing form xcode 4 mac lion says "If you install XQuartz you get X11 which has glx.h" but this is not correct, at least not for me. I have installed xquartz using brew, but still cannot find glx.h.
Another site suggested installing Xcode, which I did, but that does not contain glx.h either.
Installing xquartz fixed it. OpenGL (at least the versions I found) is insufficient because it does not include glx.h. The page xquartz.org says, "The XQuartz project is an open-source effort to develop a version of the X.Org X Window System that runs on OS X. Together with supporting libraries and applications, it forms the X11.app that Apple shipped with OS X versions 10.5 through 10.7."
So I downloaded and installed xquartz, and then compiled with -I/opt/X11/include instead of -I/usr/X11R6/include, and linked with -L/opt/X11/lib instead of -L/usr/X11R6/lib; as suggested at fatal error 'GL/glx.h' file not found on mac after Xquartz is installed ; and it all worked.

Xcode 6.4 quits unexpectedly in macOS Sierra?

I have many working projects built in Xcode 6.4(had OS X Yosemite).
Recently i updated to macOS Sierra.
And also i have installed Xcode version 7.3.1.
i.e. i have multiple Xcode versions installed following this link.
http://iosdevelopertips.com/xcode/install-multiple-versions-of-xcode.html
However i can open my projects in Xcode 7.3.1 but it shows too many errors. i want to open it in Xcode 6.4, which is giving me the error "Xcode quit unexpectedly." each time i reopen the project in Xcode 6.4
I tried this solutions, still no results
Xcode quits unexpectedly every time I open my project
Xcode 5 crashes -- Xcode quit unexpectedly
I understand there is some compatibility issue.
Is there any solution.SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.
I had the same problem. It seems the problem is related to Ubiquity.framework being missing in newer OS versions. I managed to get the Xcode 6.4 to working on OS 10.12 with following:
Disable System Integrity Protection (SIP)
Restart your Mac.
Before OS X starts up, hold down Command-R and keep it held down until you see an Apple icon and a progress bar. Release. This boots you into Recovery.
From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
At the prompt type exactly the following and then press Return: csrutil disable
Terminal should display a message that SIP was disabled.
From the  menu, select Restart.
II. copy "OS X El Capitan 10.11.6" /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Ubiquiy.framework to "OS X Sierra" /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Ubiquity.framework
III. Enable System Integrity Protection (SIP)

Try this solution
May be it helps.
Apple does recommend to upgrade to newer xcode versions. That would be fine IF the newer xcode versions would allow to run simulator on ALL the previsous iOS versions (which doesn't happen).
So if you need to support older devices (which if you do enterprise apps you are bound to need), you are stuck to use older xcode versions that still support the lowest hardware that you need to support.
I have the same issue.Out project is on xcode6.4.When i upgrade from mac 10.11 to 10.12.
Xcode 6.4 crashed when open.
I just downgraded to 10.11 back.
What worked for me was to remove a recent file {PROJECT-FOLDER}/{YOUR-PROJECT-NAME}.entitlements.

How do I get GCC on OS X Lion?

I recently bought a new Mac and did a time machine restore of my old mac & updated the xCode version to the latest version. After the move I have lost the ability to use Make and GCC; saying these commands are unavailable. I use Make and GCC to develop for homework assignments for classes that I later SCP up to a Linux box at school then run from there.
How do I get GCC and Make for Mac OS Lion? I've seen some articles on how to install via source via compiling but they automatically assume you have GCC installed, which I do not.
Please help!
gcc should be in /Developer/usr/bin/. Check there.
You have to download Xcode from the app store
You have to run the Install Xcode application
Within Xcode go to Preferences -> Downloads and click install for the command line tools
You'll find the tools at the usual place, for example /usr/bin/make.
See also post on superuser.com
You can access the App Store and download XCode. It's free. It will give you llvm (compiler), make and related tools.
Unfortunately justing updating the path (which I found not in any /Developer but actually in /Applications/Xcode.app) doesn't solve other issues like missing manpages. Apple has released a new developer download for command line developer tools. Either go directly to Apple's developer page, for find a little more info and the link here.

Does Silverlight 4 install on a non-Intel Mac?

Does Silverlight 4 install on a non-Intel Mac?
No. This link implies that only Silverlight 1 is installable on a PPC Mac. Apple Downloads site. Anything later requires OSX 10.5 or higher, which is Intel-only.
Here's another link, from Microsoft's FAQ site, which states OSX 10.4.8 or higher. Again, OSX 10.4.8 is Intel only.
