TFS 2013 and SQL Server 2014 Version Conflict - sql-server

Trying to install TFS 2013 using Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - 12.0.2000.8 (X64), not CTP. But I get error...
TF255146: Team Foundation Server requires SQL Server 2012 SP1 (11.00.3000) or greater. The SQL Server instance XXX you supplied is version 12.0.2000.8.
Has anyone experienced it? Microsoft documentation clearly states SQL 2014 is supported. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, this is correct, SQL Server 2014 is supported, but only with TFS 2013 Update 2, which was released a couple of days ago.

Also, If you do install TFS 2013.3 (Update 2) with SQLServer 2014 There is a nasty performance issue with all of the work item functionality in the web access. Microsoft has not put a fix out yet . There is a document with a workaround , but its difficult to find ; the way its written it only addresses "Upgrades".

MS SQL Server Management Studio 2014, with older (2012) version of SQL server

I am using locally the MS SQL Server Management Studio 2012 with SQL server 2012 database engine.
I have the following question:
Can I upgrade ONLY the SQL Server Management Studio 2012 (TOOLS) to 2014 version, and leave my old 2012 already installed database engine version?
Yes, you can.
But install SSMS 2014 as standalone (instead of trying to upgrade tools).
From SSMS 2014 SP1 release notes you can see that it vitally supported SQL Server 2012. See how many compatibility fixes for 2012 were delivered.
Generally I'd recommend to prefer latest release of SSMS 2016 which
works with all supported versions of SQL Server (SQL Server 2008 - SQL Server 2016)
(Besides that I tried to find similar statement for SSMS 2014 (there was one), but I couldn't.)
I'm using SSMS 2008 + SSMS 2016 side by side and they are running just fine. In similar way, I was using SSMS 2008 + SSMS 2014 before the upgrade.
You can download and install SQL Server Management Studio using the links provided in: Scott Hanselman's website
There are links to various SSMS versions (2012, 2014, for x86, x64), as well as links to various SQL-Server Express versions.
By the way, you can use the latest SSMS 2014 to manage your 2012 database.
You could simply install new SSMS 2014 version and leave the 2012 version installed ONLY IF they are all 32-bit or 64-bit. You cannot upgrade 32-bit 2012 to 64-bit 2014 and vice versa. Ideally you could use 2014 version SSMS to access databases created in 2012 before because of the compatible level allows you to do that, but it will raise another problem for restoring the databases since you cannot restore any backup files that backed up from old(2012) to (2014) because of the database version did not match.
SSMS is now a separate free product that works with all versions from 2008 and up. The current version is 16.5.3
For older versions:
There is no explicit block for SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005, but some features may not work properly.
You'll have to download the RC version if you want to connect to SQL Server vNext, eg to SQL Server on Linux

Is it possible to run SharePoint 2013 on SQL Server using Compatibility Level 120

I need to migrate a SQL Server 2014 instance supporting SSAS/SSRS and SharePoint 2013 to SQL Server 2016. Unfortunately, I won't be able to have separate instances.
I've read that SharePoint 2013 isn't compatible with SQL Server 2016 but can't find if running it in Compatibility Level (120) is possible.
I would really appreciated some feedback if you have tested this setup.
Thank you very much for your support.
Best Regards

SQL Server 2016 RTM Download

Does anyone know when is SQL Server 2016 going to become available for download via MSDN? I thought it was today. As I type we still only have RC3 on there.
SQL Server 2016 released on MSDN:
SQL Server 2016 Database engine & core features (MSDN)
SQL Server Management Studio 2016
SQL Server Data Tools 2016 (June 2016)
The new download of sql 2016 management studio is an august release, you can find it here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt238290.aspx
When you download this installer, you can see Releaswe 16.3 in the set up. I came to this question because if you install the previous release of the management studio(the one in the accepted answer) you will get an error.

Visual Studio 2013 SSDT - Support for SQL Server 2008 R2?

I have a question for someone out there who has Visual Studio 2013 - SSDT installed... I know that we cannot deploy SSIS packages to a SQL Server version less than 2014, what about SSRS reports? Everyone on my team except the database guys have been using VS2013 for some time now. I want to upgrade too!!! If I convinced the business to upgrade the SSIS servers to 2014, we would still need to support SSRS reports in 2008R2 (because of SharePoint 2010). Arggg... Leave it to Microsoft to leave the database developers behind (again). A new version of Visual Studio is out for preview and I don't want to be two versions behind.
Can someone please check to see if you can deploy an SSRS report to a 2008 R2 server using Visual Studio 2013? I know it's a long shot. Otherwise, I'll have to go through the massive 2013 install just to have my dreams crushed when it doesn't work out..
Thanks All!
SSDT-BI 2014 for VS 2013 can support SSRS 2008 R2. It just can't support SSIS 2008R2. Please see the blog below:

Can I install SQL Server 2014 Express and Visual Studio 2013 Web on Windows Server 2008 R2 sp2?

I would like to know if it's possible to install both SQL Server 2014 Express and Visual Studio 2013 Web on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP2 machine, and if so, what are the requirements, like what version of the .NET framework should I install given the possibility.
I hope someone can clarify this, thanks.
Regarding SQL Server Express 2014:
Yes you can install it on Server 2008 R2 SP2. The requirements can be found on MSDN
Regarding Visual Studio 2013 Web:
Yes this is also possible. The requirements can be seen at Visual Studio Express
Installing this is possible, just like the other post says. I have these version installed on a machine however and they dont seem to "play nice". VS 13 express web has some issues recognizing the database in this set up. Might/should be a temporary bug and might already be fixed in the latest SQL server 2014, just thought I would share.
