I have created a simple Expression Blend 4 project with a DatePicker. I edited the template for the DatePicker, including its DatePickerTextBox, changing the watermark text from "Select a date" to "dd/mm/yyyy". The resulting XAML in Blend applies a style to the original DatePicker, and this style is stored as a resource in Window.Resources. However the editing done for the watermark text does not take effect. Any ideas? Thanks.
(Please note, i do not want to resort to code, i would like to understand how this can be achieved using Blend.). Here is the XAML for the window:

Edit:
Fixed the issue described in your comment. This style modifies the WaterMark's ControlTemplate and works as expected.

I came across this question and the answers when I needed to use a different watermark aswell. (In my case an empty watermark.) The code in the accepted answer was so long and complicated that I didn't really consider using it. The shorter answer by Jón Arnar works in some cases but in my case it doesn't. (The date picker is empty when the window is loaded. However as soon as I load a null value into a datepicker control the standard watermark appears again. This got me to take another look at the accepted answer and I shortened it so it just removes the watermark and nothing else (well...). For anyone searching like I was here is the shorter version with some explaination:

I personally use this in a user control but for a window <Window.Resources> would also work. This element is placed as child element directly after the opening tag of a UserControl or a Window. The key part is <TextBlock Text=""/>. Because I want an empty watermark, I specify an empty string.
This is the amount of code I was able to strip away. Is it possible to remove even more? Please comment if you know or edit this answer directly.
I hope this is helpful for the next person searching for the best solution.

I am teaching myself how to use Blend some MS lessons. One project I am going through is a calculator, where the calculator keys are defined using the xaml below, each with it's own storyboard to animate the press and release of the key.
The images for each key were created in Photoshop or something similar, and the end result is the nice looking calculator below.
Questions:
is it possible to define the StoryBoard(s) once and reuse that for each 'key'? How?
is it possible to turn each key into a button? How?
Cheers,
Berryl

The next step is to learn how to template a button. After that, you can use transition effect between "Pressed" and "Normal" states.
Edit 1
Example :
You must adapt these styles with your use (image instead of text etc..).
In Blend after past this snippet, right click on one button, Edit Template > Edit Current...
Or in Resources pannel : Right click on CalcButtonStyle Edit You can change default properties (background color, margin etc.) in this mode. Il you want change the template : on object and Timeline pannel, right click on "<> Style" Edit Template > Edit Current...
You can see the different states (Normal, Pressed etc.) in the States pannel.

I have the following XAML:
<toolkit:NumericUpDown Background="White"/>
However, this doesn't change the background-color of the control. I already tried to assign a background over the SpinnerTemplate, but this doesn't work either. Is there any way I can make this control have a background without having to make a new template?
Without having to make a new template? I don't think so.
Does this do what you need to accomplish?

The key line is:
<Grid Background="{TemplateBinding Background}">
You can nestle this style away in a resource dictionary if you're going to be doing this often.
I have a TreeView control where nodes are dynamically built using a HierarchicalDataTemplate. In other words, no TreeViewItems are explicitly defined in the XAML. TreeViewItems are instead created automatically when the data are bound at runtime (I can see them in Silverlight Spy).
Is it possible to customize the expand/collapse symbols (paths) within the TreeView in this case? Clients hate the default triangles as being hard to see and use. I've found references to doing this kind of thing, but only where the TreeViewItems are set up explicitly, so that a Style can be set in the XAML of the page. Another way of asking this I guess is whether it's possible to define and apply a style for the TreeViewItem when they are not in the XAML markup (or added in code as TreeViewItem).
Yes, you will need to change the TreeViewItem's style property. Here is one I'm using...

Notice the toggle button.
So then in the code behind you would do...
myDynamicTreeViewItem.Style = (Style)this.Resources["TreeViewContainerStyle"];
I'm using a ListBox to display a horizontal display of 800 thumbnails, but only 6 at a time (depending on screen resolution), I want to move through the images using buttons either side of the list.
I currently have this working, but when I change the SelectedItem of the listbox to next/previous thumbnail the ScrollViewer doesn't automatically keep the SelectedItem in view. The SelectedItem after 6 thumbnails will just disappear.
I can move the ScrollBar to see the SelectedItem, but thats not good enough, in the final version I don't even want a ScrollBar, I just want the users to be able to hold down the Left or Right buttons and it blitses through the photos.
Also just to give you why I want this, every time the SelectedItem is changed on the ListBox it changes the FullSize preview of the photo above.
Is there anyway in Silverlight 2 to make sure the SelectedItem in the ScrollViewer (in the ListBox), stays in the viewable area?
Here's the current XAML for the ListBox:
<ListBox x:Name="lbPhotos"
ItemsSource="{Binding Photos}"
SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedPhoto, Mode=TwoWay}"
ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource ReflectionListBoxItemStyle}">
<ListBox.ItemsPanel>
<ItemsPanelTemplate>
<controls:WrapPanel Margin="0" />
</ItemsPanelTemplate>
</ListBox.ItemsPanel>
<ListBox.Template>
<ControlTemplate>
<Grid>
<ScrollViewer VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden" HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"
BorderThickness="0" MaxHeight="170">
<ItemsPresenter />
</ScrollViewer>
</Grid>
</ControlTemplate>
</ListBox.Template>
<ListBox.ItemTemplate>
<DataTemplate>
<Image MaxHeight="85" Source="{Binding ThumbnailUrl, Converter={StaticResource UrlToBitmapImageConverter}}" />
</DataTemplate>
</ListBox.ItemTemplate>
</ListBox>
Item container style is here:

I ended up using ScrollViewer.ScrollToHorizontalOffset as ScrollIntoView didn't work
